Are extended warranties worth the extra $?

So my gf is looking to buy a 2008 Sebring conv with 23,000 on the ticker. we're not sure if getting the bumper-bumper extended warranty would be worth the money. They're asking $500 down and $180 a month for a year but it covers up to 5 years or 100,000mi

i've always bought old cars and never had a warranty on any of them..lol...so i don't know.

any advice??

my best advice is do not buy that car...i worked at autozone for a year and a half and ALOT of people came in with problems with those cars.

They really arent that bad of cars i worked for chrysler for a bit. If you maintain the car it wont really give you any issues. Suspension on them kinda sucks bushings do go bad. I recomend the warranty though.

Male sure you know what the deductable for repairs is, and read any exclusions in the contract. Make sure it doesn't have any limitations on repair coverage. Some only cover up to a certain dollar amount.
Every salesman likes to tell you that these things are bumper to bumper, but unless your paying 2-3000$ for a warranty, it absolutely is not.

newer chryslers seem to be hit or miss. you may never use the warranty, or it will save your ass. my advice is to not buy the car.

Make sure the warranty covers the top. We have dealt with a few sebrings at my shop with top issues, rattles and things coming out it sync.

yea...90% of the problems ive heard of are with the top...top motor...everything to do with that

Good point. The other thing I have done on those, if its the 2.7, is water pumps. And if anyone else.here has, you know what a big deal that is. Book time was something like 5.5 hours. It's behind the timing cover.

My biggest worry with one of those would be where it came from... considering any rental car agency has roughly 100 of them in their lot at any given time, I would want to make sure it wasnt a rental. As far as the warranty goes... that seems VERY expensive for a domestic car. I think the 100k warranty on my 335 was like 2 grand or something.

I am betting if you just stick that money in a savings account you will end up on top with whatever repairs need to be done before 100k.

I think that they are a gamble depending on what ends needing to be done on your car. I was glad I had my warranty as my car had under warranty a $2800 job and a few other things that it covered.

Other times like with my father's work truck, he calculated it out and his warranty only saved him $30 over 5 years versus the costs of the work it covered.
