CV stands for constant velocity
single u-joint is not a CV joint the shaft actually speeds up and slows down. you can google why if you want hard to explain by typing.
That's why single U-joint angles need to be phased to cancel out the speeding up and slowing down to eliminate vibration.
Everything else is basically a CV joint. from a double u-joint a u-joint is also called a cardan joint so a double cardan that's what people think of for drive shaft CV joints
or what most people think of with as CV joints the one with all the balls, rezappa or something like that, which are used at the axles, and a few driveshafts, again search google.RCrocs #123 Brown CJ-5

first 2 shafts/outputs are CV style. notice the double ujoint housings that hold 2 ujoints. that's the big difference that makes a CV better, it can operate steeper like phil said and not have vibrations on acceleration/deceleration like a non CV would.
lowest one is a non CV style. notice the SINGLE ujoint in that one.Last edited by konastinky1234; 04-18-2012, 10:59 AM.Hack Shack Racing #4632 Jeep TJ
