Shitty? Glad to see you're still staying classy.

Anyways. Is there a reason you are staying with a jeep platform? You can get a decent toyota pickup and still have plenty to build up the axles and lift and have a great crawler and fuel efficient daily driver. If i were to start again i would get a frame based vehicle.

2500 wont get you much as far as performance IMO. Depends on where you are willing to slack on parts.

Used RE 3.5 or other lift.

      Used 33's.

      Lincoln Locker a 29 spline 8.25

Gears? Then pay someone to install gears since most people cant do gear jobs without special tools.

Locked front would be nice. Spend another 2-300 on a locker.

SYE is 200. If you are lucky and have an auto, reuse a front XJ shaft on the rear.

      Shocks?

I guess you could get everything used but that will lead to my next point.....

Parts add up quickly. Parts also break quickly. Why go on a budget?

He also said his CREDIT CARD had a 2500 dollar limit. Most people on craigslist and forums when buying USED parts dont accept credit card as a payment.

      2500 dollars isnt realistic, IMO.

I was into my Cherokee for 2655 bucks exactly. 4.5 lift. Long arms 33s dana 44 rear with discs locker 4.88 gears. Front locker. It was a very capable vehicle for what it was

              Let's see.

              99 xj - 1600
              Re3.5 superflex - 650
              8" travel bilstein 5150's - 840
              New steelies -200
              Used 33's - 200
              Dual aussies - 500

This was my budget build when I first took it wheeling and it did very well. Keep in mind all of this was new besides the tires. It's entirely possible to build a decent xj for under 2500 as there are cheaper parts out there than I got. Do 1 locker, cheaper shocks, old generation xj and you will save some more cash

Second post so I don't clutter my last one... if I had to build an xj again I'd get a $1k mid 90's. Used shocks, used 31's on wheels, t case and gas tank skids, 2 aussies, sawzall and a bff. That's it. Maybe an inch or 2 of lift and 33's down the road. Probably not haha

things like this dissapoint me, i could have an entire rig for less than the cost of my transfer case and seats
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

This. How can a budget build be over a few thousand dollars? I have spent like $2600 on my jeep so far up until I started building some axles.

And there are mods that can be done to save money and still make it a good wheeler. Moving the gas tank into the cab would create a lot of clearance and would also remove the need for a $200 gas tank skid, Which is important at small lift heights.
