  • Stroker motor blowing oil filter seal

Built a 4.0 stroker a couple months back. Raced it at Line Mt. and blew a rad hose off and overheated it. Ever since then, when I start it, The oil filter seal blows out and within seconds all the oil from the motor is on the ground.

Have changed filters and such but am at a lose right now. I am thinking there is either clogged somewhere or hopefully the filter housing is to blame.

    Anyone ever have this issue?

Worst case. I am swapping a stock 4.0 in so I can wheel on the 19th.

I've heard of this happening before, I jusy don't have any info useful enough to you besides the obvious(oilpump/filter housing).

Kappy was doing this on his Mustang, I think.

Filter housing will be my first stop. Then pump. I am going to prime the system tomorrow and see if it will blow when I use the drill on the pump.

I would try to pre-oil it like you do a new motor slowly and see if you start seeing any of the seals weep

This is true pulled and installed the motor twice. His oil pump and cooler were fisted.

sounds like the oil pump bypass valve isnt working. your oil pump is building to much pressure, the oil gasket being the weak point in the pressurized system.

Sounds like I am going to be replacing the pump and filter housing this weekend. If it is no fixed by Sunday, it looks like I have 4 weeknights to swap a motor.

Would make sense since its a gear pump

Just got word from a tech that late 90's 4.0's had high pressure oil pump problems.

Lets hope its just the pump or housing.

New oil pump fixed the problem.
