  • zone offroad 4 inch tj shocks

    guys,

installed these shocks yesterday on my rig that probably has between 2.5 and 4 inches of lift in the rear, not exactly sure. but i have a major problem with flex....

the shock is too damn long to compress my suspension. i have maybe like 2 inches of uptravel only which is god awful. i bottom out everywhere just driving around town. i have to measure the compressed length of these shocks i guess and compare but has anyone had this issue before? and even with more lift this wont help me right? still wont get the stuffing i want.
    help please!!

means your shockbody is too long, which ultimately means you have the wrong size travel shock for your lift application if what you explain is accurate

ya, i really dont understand how it is wrong though since it is a 4 inch lift shock for a tj and i have almost that much lift. must be because my 8.8 brackets are not stock but i just cant imagine there being so much difference.

and update: there is literally about 1 inch or less of shock piston sticking out of the body when the vehicle sits at ride height.

these shocks are majorly wrong for the application. in that case anyone got rear shocks that may be what i am looking for?

seemed to have read that maybe f150 shocks or jk shocks would work for my application, anyone know anything about this?

8.8 brackets will raise your shocks points up a bit. but chances are they sent you wrong ones. Rough Country did the same thing with rear shocks on my TJ. I installed them and about a week later Both bushings were gone because of the shocks bottoming out and the bushings taking the impact.

The solution ? e-mailed rough country and showed them pics. they sent me new parts next day. never had a problem after that

ok cleantj, sounds like maybe that could be it.

especially since my 8.8 brackets are not mroe than 2 inches higher than the d35 ones which would still not be enough travel honestly. i may call them up and ask to just exchange for a shock with similar travel and the shortest shock body available.

in the meantime put my stock ones on and they are actually fine. good compression and 2 inches or so more droop than stock since the 8.8 brackets are up higher so i am actually quite happy with it like this

That's more than likely your problem. The 88 brackets are up higher and your lift might not be exactly 4" I'd email them pics anyways and see if they'll fix it.
