  • Heim steering...

    Here is my idea...

I want heim steering to replace mah shitty stock job. Yes it is a driver and Yes i know that it advised against but i want beef without reaming knuckles and such... I can weld so i wanna do it by mah self.

However I want to keep the stock configuration of the tracbar seeing as I just bought a RK trac-bar.

This is my idea. Basically the exact same thing as a JCR WONTON or Banditt WONTON but with heims and UTK.

My very crude drawing of the draglink. The top drawing is the front veiw and the bottom is if you were looking form the top.

Basicaly i will have a double shear mount for where the tie rod and the draglink come together with a notched small peices of tubing welded on the draglink where the bolt will go through.

    This gave me the idea.

    http://pirate4x4.com/forum/showpost....6&postcount=26

I know it will work as far as packaging... but i know people complain of tie-rod roll with inverted-t and i think UTK but if i am thinking of this correctly the heims will eliminate that roll.

So my question is.... Do YOU think it will work as far as no bump steer and hold together???

That looks pretty ill. I'd like to see this pan out and if it works I might want something like it. I'm stuck in the same predicament, I want won ton steering, but don't know how to ream or know anyone who does has he said anything about how that setup worked?

reaming is easy, holding the drill is the only part that takes any effort..

Is there any reason you don't want to keep the stock Inverted-Y geometry? You can design it so that the toe change isn't an issue, and eliminate tie rod roll.

If I were building steering, that's how I would do it.

P.S. I'm pretty certain you are going to experience tie rod roll with either heims, or tie rods. If anything, I would imagine heims would roll more seeing as they are generally capable of more misalignment.

IMO i still think that crossover with heims is the best option.

a flat drag link and a tie rod with no twisting forces on it.
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

                    step 1: buy a reamer

step 2: put it in a drill

step 3: ream out the hole until the 1 ton tre fits in it

and i feel like southington is not local to josh

I'm not sure many here are going to end up breaking a 7/8 heim joint though.

If he was worried, he could just carry one spare, and hardware is available anywhere.

                            ...

I Know I can ream the knuckles. LOL. Maybe i should rephrase this statement.

I want heim steering because I like the simplicity of grade 8 bolts and the beef. I know that GM tre's are probably of equal beef to a 3/4 or 7/8 Ruffstuff heim.
