  • Radiators all steel vs plastic resi

First off my jeep runs fine, doesn't overheat.

But I currently have a replacement radiator in there with the plastic tanks.

it has always been in the back of my head "oh shit what if it cracks"

It was put in by the previous owner and has around 15k miles on it.

I have a spare csf 3 row from radiatorbarn.

I have also heard of issues with these, but this was run in my old black jeep for 5k, then my green jeep for about 30k miles, and is still minty fresh.

I just don't want to be out on the comp course and be forced to stop because my radiator failed.

    what would you guys do?

a handful of peeps on naxja had issues and got them warrantied.

the plastic one just doesn't feel right in there, feels dainty.

i run at 200 touching 215 on occasion, then the fan kicks in by its own self and brings it back down to 200.

i get close to red when i beat the piss out of it though, but thats expected

from personal experience im gonna say its worth the swap. My plastic tank split open while i was wheeling Lam and it ended up being a very shitty/long ride home.

I think you should go with the all metal one but you could always keep a tube of JB Weld for them if they should spring a leak.

i've never gone above 220 since the summer i did the overhaul with the CSF. that includes 4 people in the jeep in 90 degree heat with the AC on in sugar sand on the beach running street pressure.

I would def go metal res. I had a plastic one break in my ZJ a few years ago and it was a shit-pain to find a new one and replace it on the fly. With mine, the top neck broke completely off, so there was no way to repair it. Dont want that to happen on the trail, huh?

I was in the snow a few weeks ago, wheeling open open with mall terrains pretty much on the gas the entire time, since thats all there is to do. When we got to the top of a hill I was near the red. The other XJ I was with blew the cap off the rad. I turned my heat on and opened the hood and it cooled off in like 5-10 minutes. Took the other guy at least a half hour.
