  • Water leak

Hello All- I posted a couple of weeks ago and can't find the original post to respond to so here goes...I mentioned that I have a bad water leak in the front passenger side. It only happens when I go through the car wash or we have a really bad hard rain - water literally pours out of the front passenger - bottom of the dash.

Based on the responses I got 2 different possibilities. One was the heater core and that's been checked and that isn't it.

The other one was crap may have gotten through the loovers on the hood and clogged the air box. This is probably the issue. I have the front valance off and don't see anywhere that there are drain holes or anything that could get clogged. Am I missing something?

    Thanks a bunch!!

on wranglers, when this happen the usual fix it to take cowl off and seal around the plastic box that allows air into the dash with rtv. is there a way to get to that in an xj ?

this is what it looks like under the cowl and the plastic box that keeps water that flows into the cowl from entering the floor/dash

chances are if water is entering, its leaking from that area/seal and leaking out of your heater box under the dash, also your cowl drain is may be clogged. its usually located on the firewall. Again im not familiar with XJ setup but assuming its on the firewall still. being clogged it allows water to pool up in the cowl area and reach that air opening .

my tj would have like 2" of water on the floor before i sealed it up after heavy rains

did you check all the seams in the front corner of that side under the hood? if the seam sealer is crack it will leak (Happened to me).

Your heater core would leave a "sticky" coolant like moisture on the floor,, evap cores leave water. But yours sounds like a leak from the cowl area.
