  • ac compressor bullshit

So I think the bearing is smoked on my compressor. It makes a pretty terrible racket on occasion and smells weird as hell. The only way I can describe it is like a graphite smell and burning at the same time.

I don't have the tools to replace the clutch assembly up here and I need to limp home to CT on friday. Any Ideas on what I should do? I already unplugged the SOB which helped out quite a bit.

I'm thinking about just grabbing a spare belt on the way out of town and hoping for the best. I plan on grabbing and installing a new compressor once I'm home.

Ive burned up the clutch in one before and driven a semi long distance with no issues but if the bearing is shot there is no guarantee that it won't seize on the drive home and another belt wont help if at pulley seizes. What year is it? Does the ac even work? Could always just get the ac compressor delete pulley.

yeah I though about that. It's a 93 and the AC does work, I'm pretty sure the clutch is just smoked. I don't feel like gutting the ac shit out of there if I do the delete pulley. I'll just replace the clutch when I get home.

could of gotten a shorter belt and just bypassed it, no need for a fake pulley.

unfortunately no. If you bypass it, the water pump spins backwards
