so i have exhaust coming through my valve cover. i'm no mechanic but i'm pretty sure this isnt normal haha. i noticed when i opened my oil cap and could hear the exhaust get louder and air was being pushed out. runs fine, starts right up no problems so i'm thinking the compression is alright. could the pcv be plugged?

I wouldnt think it is a pcv issue.
If you are building up pressure in the valve cover and the pcv is clogged I think it would just pop out of the grommet.2 Broncos are better than 1

a pcv is uber cheap, replace that first. if that doesnt fix it, i'd be willing to bet crosby is right and its a valve seal.No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Im not sure how 4 liters have their valve seals but on most engines the intake seal is much more of a seal then the exhaust seals are. they are actually called umbrella seals. The intakes are more burly because clearly noone wants oil to get into the cylinder on the intake stroke. this will burn a shit ton of oil. the exhaust valve seal isnt quite as good of a seal because the engine wont be burning oil coming through the exhaust valve guide as the exhaust exits the motor. sometimes they are made of a hard plastic which doesnt seal too well. However, if the seal is bad, and even if the valve guide is bad (which would suck), exhaust will come into the head.
97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.
