  • Problems with tire size over 35" on a Dana 44?

Hi all. I have a Terraflex long arm kit. Running 3" lift with a 1.5" body lift. I am going to be installing some TNT steel fenders soon to give me the added room and flex. I hear that I should not run anything larger than a 35 (I have a TJ Rubicon) with the D44 as anything over 35 seems to be the cutoff when problems start. For those who are running larger tires, what are your experiences?

I take it you are running stock axle shafts?

The outers are your problem, they are D30 outers. But I would def run some Alloys in the front, and keep ur stock axles as spares.

this. i mean, plenty of us XJ guys lock dana 30s on 35s but i wouldnt do it unless I had alloy shafts. those rubicon axles are 30 spline shafts but just run Dana 30 outers. oh and they are the same 760x U-joint as a Dana 30 (as with all D44s). so your u joints will be your weak link IMO

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.
