  • Lift Vs. Tires Size

does anyone have a simple comparison?

2" Lift = what size tire
    3"
    4"
    4.5"
    5"
    6"
    6.5"
    etc.

    with trimming without trimming?

I want to run 35's but don't want to blast up the sheet metal. I know that the wells are tight and will most likely need cutting but what is the max you guys have used without taking a grinder to the fender.

with a 6.5" clayton kit, what size tire could I run without trimming?

I am gonna assume you have an XJ when i write this, hopefully im not wasting time haha

I know where you are coming from, as I was certainly there once, and I made the mistake of building my jeep around not trimming, back in the day...it worked for awhile but just wasnt worth it in the end.

Take it from me. Trim and run a better setup. You may be pleasantly surprised how clean and nice you can make it look, you definitely dont need to hack your fender into nothing to have 4.5" on 35s for example.

I dont think anyone on this site has over 6" of lift on their XJs.

Basically what it comes down to is: If you want to flex with a tire over a 32", you need to trim. Lift doesnt make your wheel wells bigger for the tire to fit into when you flex up. Maybe you could get around trimming by just having so much lift its ridiculous, but thats illogical IMO.

He is mine on 4.5-5" up front and 4.5 in the rear.

A good fender cut and proper bump stopping will go a long way. Many people on here run 3" and 33s while other run 4.5" and 35s. They are a fairly common set-up. I know some people have run 3" and 35s etc. Some run 5.5" and 37s. It really all depends how you are set up and what you are planning on doing with it.

Id say if you want to fit 35s with minimal fender damage, i would go with 5.5-6" lift. however, you will definitely have to cut the fender anyway.

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

Or you can just be like Me and cut your fenders to fit 42" tires on 3" of lift.

I run 4.5" of lift and 35s (although im going to 36 or 37s and still gonna stay at 4.5" of lift ).

Heres what it looks like, fenders still look good and I did a decent amount of trimming....

It flexes pretty good, tires dont eat the fenders

OOOO! i wanna play this game!

                            2.5" and 37's

you can fit a 33 with relative ease on any lift height if you are willing to trim and bumpstop. smaller tires are cake

35's with a 3" or taller works lovely

yeayeayea they are 36" iroks, but the 36's run larger than the 37" irok

thanks for this pictures. puts it all in perspective.

sounds like a 4.5" LA set up and some moderate trimming is the way to go.

what was the process for trimming?
