    Will a ax15 bolt up to a 4.2 in a 88 wrangler that originally came with a ba-10?

  • #2
i believe so, but the tcase will not. ba-10 is 21 spline output and ax-15 is 23 spline, i think.... not 100% sure there though... someone wanna verify??
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

I'm pretty sure 4.2 and 4.0 have different pilot diameters.

what year AX-15, 92/93 and up have a larger Pilot diameter, 91/92 and down have same pilot diameter as all the older tranny's not sure about BA-10 though but it is the same as a CJ 4spd and 5spds I have one at my house and have checked.
I think the problem will be if you have the later 93 and up it might be hard to find the correct bearing or just get a brass bushing one and bore it out. I can take care of that for you too.

Also I think 94 or 95 they went with external clutch slave worth getting so you don't need to pull the tranny if the slave fails.

Also if the AX-15 came from a XJ you will need to clock it not hard stop by if you want I have a jig for it.

        I have a ax-15 from a 97 XJ if your interested.

Its for my friend that lives in PA. I told him not to get another BA-10 and look into a ax-15 swap.
