  • stiff ride

The xj I just bought has a 4" pro comp lift on it and it rides like crap. It consists of shackles, aal's, coils, 1" aluminum coil spacers, shocks, and lower control arms. What can i do to get it to ride/flex better? I'm going to remove the rear sway bar and make some disconnects for the front but that's only going to help off road.

    get rid of that basically.

    pro comp is cursed

but all kidding aside, thier jeep stuff is garbage. they might be making a decent name for themselves in the fullsize truck world. but they just throw together crap for xj's just to get in a little on the market.

The AAL will certainly contribute to some of the harshness.

Pretty much. Its not going to ride like a caddy but this will make it better

ya, i know all about how crappy procomp stuff is for jeeps. this was on the rig when i bought it, so i didnt really care, i just wanted a wagoneer. idk if this is a 3" lift that someone threw 1" aluminum spacers on or what, but i was looking at 4.5" coils and was wondering if i could still use the procomp lower arms or if i need adjustables. i know im probably going to need an adjustable track bar...wish i didnt sell the brand new rough country one i had for a hundred bucks.

Shocks play into ride quality alot as well, what shocks are you running, the procomp ones?

~4.5-5" of lift on stock arms is the biggest reason your ride sucks, instead of shocks...IMO.

i think hes got pro comp adjustables, but he doesnt know if they are only for 3" and someone added to the lift.

CA's would certainly explain the front if they're stock.

adjustables still will have same angles, though true, we dont know if its 4.5-5..guess thats the first step, haha

the shocks are procomp, so are the lower arms (non-adjustable) and it is 4" of lift. i really only want about 4.5" of lift, thats all i need. id like to be able to use some 4.5" coils and the procomp lowers i have, and not have to get new ones. my goal is to spend as little as possible on this thing. any suggestion on coils? as for the rear, im not sure.

buy your coils used if you can find a cheap /good set, those arms aren't going to cut it, so you mine as well look for some control ams as well..

The ride quality all comes down to how much you spend, if you buy cheap, you will have the same problems you have now. The control arms need to be proportional to the lift height. Coming from some one who has around 6ish in the front (4.5 coil/1/75in spacer) on lowers meant for 4.5 inches of lift, i feel every bump. I don't get d.w any more i think because of the wider stance with the 12.5's.

you will have a generally shitty ride on 4.5 with short arms

and with the procomp shocks you have now (i assume they are standard low end procomp hydros based on the rest of it)

the only way to have a good ride in a jeep is to

                              A: have not much lift
B: accommodate your higher lift with components made to alleviate it (longer control arms (or drop brackets), better dampening in shocks)
