So I made my own spring plates for bumpstops

Got some 1/4" plate steel and drilled and milled some holes.

Look Familiar? I made the exact same plates for Will's rear and they seem to be working out pretty damn good, so I decided to smith myself up some for some bumpstoppage for the rear since I got those sweet 5150s in.

Now I just have to work on the front.

Will might be able to answer this better than you since he's already used his, but are you worried about "warping" the 1/4" with so much torque down on the u-bolts? I know I notice a bend in my DPG plates, and they are 3/8" thick. Although they bounce right back afterwards.

Just wondering because I didn't want to have to go overkill and double up to 1/2".

another factor with this is the DPG plate is a metal on hard OEM bump contact...these are poly progressive hitting the OEM bump, whole nother level of compression in there to spare the metal

No, I'm not really "bending" 3/8" plate. I just notice a slight arc to it when the ubolts are torqued to piss, but once I take them off it springs right back to normal.

edit: I do need me some progressive bumps though

That's good though, that means everything is torqued down and unless there becomes a stress fracture, nothing will happen.

I'm not worried about thickness either as the plates on my jeep and the one I used to mock up the holes are 1/4" as well, or if anything they are 5/16s, which isn't that much of a difference.

With the added stress of the bumps on it i would add some rigidity to it. I do see an bend in mine which i solved by heating it up and putting a slight bend each side

OK, so RJ installed these for me tonight with the assistance of my useless ass and some beer I purchased for him and overall things went great when we got all the parts we needed.



Yes, they did warp a bit under the adverse torque of the ubolts, but they didn't bend totally fucking crazy out of shape. The driver side (pictured) I had to notch the plate itself so it wouldn't hit the shock, but other then that everything bolted right into place.

At almost full flex they barely touch and at full flex contact is there, but it isn't compressing the lower like crazy. Normal ride height there is a LOT of room in there, so these bumps are just at the edge of my limit, which will be good for doing some high speed stuff as well as in normal rock crawling.

I'm going to run these first a bit and see if the plate bends due to the stress of the bumps hitting, but I don't foresee a problem and if there is, we can modify them quite easily. It's a flat plate, a lot can be done to stiffen it up or make a rest that sits on the axle to prevent extreme deflection.

Oh well, I'll run them a few times when I get my front bumps squared away and see what happens.
