steel thickness for tire carrier?

its only going to be holding a 31 right now maybe 33 or 35 in future..is 1/8" thick enough i dont see it being weak? 1x3, 2x3 or 2x2? opinions?

yea im just trying to skimp out on weight, my tc crossmember is made otu of 1/8 and i was basically highcentered on it and it held up..

I disagree.

Unless we're talking about some sort of clearance robbing tire carrier that drags along rocks, I don't see the reason for it to weigh a shit ton. It's only going to be supporting a spare tire/wheel, it doesn't need to withstand the force of the entire jeep coming down on it.

if it touches rocks 3/16" minimum.

of course its also alot about how you build it.

a well built bumper out of 1/8" is better than a unsupported bumper of 1/4"

this is why i dont think i could build a wj

i would have to make it somewhat match the lines of the body.

i would probably get a lot of 1/8" and 3/16", make some plans and go to town

xj's can get away with some 2x6 and make it look good lol.

yea im using 2x6 for the bumper just like the front, i should have said tire carrier swing...

The bumper is built out of 1/8 thick steel,we use a inch pin to latch the system.Stainless steel receiver lock fits 5/8" and 1/2" diameter receiver holes.
