Seriously the only AR part you can't buy anymore is the Bolt Carrier Group.
BGCs normally retail for $130 and people are selling them for $200 online.
Rock River Arms told me the wait was gonna be 3 months for one. Fuck that.
It took me 20 minutes to piece one together from 3 different websites selling parts.
Thank christ I have a Carrier already...
Luckily I just pieced one together for $60. Fucking win. Everything else is on its way....hopefully.
Basically I'll have RRA Gas rings on a Stag Arms Bolt inside of a Bushmaster Bolt Carrier with a titanium firing pin. For those who don;t get it, it is like piecing together a lunchbox locker from 4 different companies.Last edited by Buffalo Phil; 03-13-2009, 09:51 PM.sigpic

But anyway, new project time. Project Mad Dog.
These came in the mail recently.
You must be saying to yourself 'WTF?' Indeed. What the fuck.
Indeed, well the inspiration to place a Bayonet on a Marlin Model 444 came in two forms. Long ago when commies were bad and not running this country, Marlin had made a few lever action Muskets that had full size bayonets on them. I was entertained by the idea but never put any more thought into it.
Until I read about this dude. The Legendary SOG commando in Vietnam known as Jerry 'Mad Dog' Shriver. Read Here about him.
http://www.taskforceomegainc.org/s139.html
One report says that 'during one of his leaves he had purchased a Marlin 444 lever action, probably the only lever action in Viet Nam, and had it shipped through SF channels. He called it his “bunker buster.“'
This dude wanted to put some big ol' fuckin holes in people.
So I decided to build a Marlin model 444 with a Bayonet mount, Ghost ring sights and a parkerized finish, true to the military arms at the time.
Well, thanks to Rock River arms for sending me the wrong fucking part, I simply made fucking do. They sent me a Vortex Flash Hider that was for a .223. Now, seriously guys, the fucking hole in this lever action is twice the size of the hole they sent me. Well, after what she said, I simply took it upon myself to modify the damn thing since I have access to a lathe.
These are 1/2-28 threads. The .500 of an inch. The caliber is .44. Not going to work. So the first thing I did was chuck it up in the lathe and cut out the old threads and open the hole to about .680", and if you are so-suite at math and thread sized, you'll know that I'll be threading for a 5/8ths tap. 5/8-24 to be exact.
Bam. Now, add a Tap and some oil.
New threads. I went a bit oversized on the threads, hence why they look like square threads rather then triangle threads.
Then I bored out the entire inside diameter to .450" so the 44 caliber bullet would pass through the flash suppressor with no issue.
I'm using the Vortex as the front bayonet mount. I'll cut the barrel down 1.5" and then thread this on there. The diameter of the Vortex is just under 7/8", which is the size of the hole on the bayonet itself.
So that is all for now, more to come this week.Last edited by Buffalo Phil; 06-01-2009, 11:27 PM.sigpic

After some intense measurements, I ended up doing the bayonet lug tonight.
Since we cannot have Bayonet lugs on AR15s in CT, I cut one off a front sight for an AR15. It is pictured here with the magazine cap I need to solder it to.
I used a flat jaw vice grip to hold the two parts together because there really was no other way. I soldered them because the parts where too small to effectively weld, and since I don't have a welder and just some oxy-acetylene tanks, I made do, once again.
Worked out fucking great regardless.
Now for the barrel, had to remove it from the gun and throw it in the lathe in order to make some sweet 5/8-24 threads for the Vortex.
Setting up.
Threading.
PUT IT ALL TOGETHER AND LOOK WHAT I FUCKIN GOT. BAM.
Sights go on thursday.sigpic
