You can basically mount the steering valve anywhere, closer to the pump and cylinder the better so you have to run less hose. And yes it basically puts no stress on where you mount it, it really doesn;t do much more than direct hydraulic flow, where a steering box is pushing/pulling off of the surface to which it is mounted. Some people even mount them right behind their steering wheels, but then if you have a hose rupture, you can get sprayed. Kinda like the whole mechanical guage mounted in a cab debate.

You are also correct in that it will not try to move side to side as you steer. The ram is doing all of the work, and the ram is mounted to the axle. Obviously it is important to build a burly mount for the ram on the axle. That is the fun part...fabricating.

Like you said, with the steering out of the way, the four link may be easier.
Bought it from LetzRoll Offroad in AZ. I am terrible weith names I think its Andy. I met him at the Jeep Rally in Somers. He has a Thanksgiving sale on PSC and some other stuff, ending today. The kit was $1250 shipped.

My goal is to get the jeep lower 4-6", linked front and rear with air shocks. The biggest issue right now with lowering it is I will have no uptravel, the axle will hit the frame. I am going to cut the frame off forward of the engine mounts and rear of the rear link mounts and just run tube up high. I didn't want to worry about mounting my steering box. Plus I have not heard a single bad think about this kit.

Nope I was building some stuff for my kitchen in there, its is fairly messy. I am trying to get my wood shop setup in the back room of the house. I also have to finish the sheet metal for my backhoe so I can get that outta there... soon enough.

Sm465 is about 13" long, SM420 is 10.something. No worries, its for the better, I need to be able to fit my jeep in my garage, not have the garage packed with parts.

Ordered hte PSC kit today with a pump and 8" stroke 2.5" double ended ram I am going to be able to lose a lot more frame in the front with this setup.

I wouldn't mind a spare but don't really feel like buying stuff I probably won't need, although you say dirt dirt cheap might be good to keep around to maybe use in another jeep of mine . Let me know..

I looked at their site, I have seen some of the stuff before, very nice products... didn't see any end links... maybe I am using the wrong vocabulary, I was talking about link ends like Currie Johney Joints. Or maybe I didn't see them. Nonetheless thanks for the link, something else to over.
