  • engine swap is in the near future. I ripped it apart and everything looked fine so im at a loss. i still havent pulled the earl pan to check but im leaning towards this was an issue of piston slap. I got awesome compression in the motor, and all cylinders looked in great shape. not bad for 160k. But im not going to throw 300 or so dollars into the engine that im not 100% sure is going to be fixed. So i found one for 350 with only 110k on it. wish it was a little cheaper but beggars cant be choosers. womp womp. hopefully ill get the injin tomorrow and it will be in by next weekend. should be up and ready for hhhhwheelin season

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

    • take the old engine out and refresh it with a nice mild cam, APN header, 2000 intake, maybe some indifferent injectors, and a oversized TB

I would love tobut my main concern is getting it running again. my goal right now is reliability as it is still my dd.

        • She done scattered cylinder number 5. How this still made perfect compression is beyond me. Cylinder walls are still in good shape so I think its going to get a good hone and a new piston. Still going to replace the lifters while im in there with all related gaskets. Going to order up some brown dog motor mounts and a new thermostat. Also going to wire in an electric fan in place of the mechanical fan

Looks like the piston ring section is still fine, probably why you still had compression.

I broke the top of a piston clear off the skirt and shot pieces through the oil pan on an escort. A valve jammed open and wacked the piston. Had the oil pan hole welded up and put a new head and a new piston and connecting rod in. Ran like a champion, still running to this day (I know the guy i sold it to) That was with about 160,000 on it i think.

                              • Got some parts. not all of them, still waiting on delivery So I did what I could. I got a new piston/rod/rings from MOPAR seeing as there are 5 different piston sizes for this engine. Honed the cylinder out and put the piston in. While I was in there I replaced all the rod bearings too. Hopefully Ill get the parts next week and it will be running by next weekend.

                                new piston

                                new bearings

                                a few old bearings

                                assembled
