  • Project: Left for Dead

Here's the starting specs: $600 Purchase price
    1998 XJ Sport
    186K

For now, this will start off as a fixing/rebuild project. As it sits, it runs and drives but It's far from perfect.

    Needs:
    Radiator
    Exhaust system
    U-Joints
    Tune-up
    Brakes
    Shocks and Leafs
    New Headliner
    Misc. interior work

So far, an oil flush and change has been done. Was only at 10-15psi for pressure, now back up to 30-40psi.

No big plans in the the short-term since time is limited being married and working two jobs and fixing up our house we purchased 2 months ago.

    .....It's a start anyhow.

Because of the leak, I'm gonna have to just grab a Radiator tomorrow. But if you got any other parts for sale I'll be interested

Exactly. It's just fixing and replacing parts for now. The two major issues left are the radiator and the rear suspension. Might have to find new leaf's if new shocks don't fix it. The exhaust is shot also, muffler is blown out, and someone for whatever reason cut a section of the Cat off. After that stuff is taken care of, I'll look at doing a small budget boost to it. Headliner is just hanging, and other stupid small things like the ashtray missing in the rear and the center of the rear wiper switch got pushed inside somehow.

              A pic because it happened:

Had free time while doing laundry at the rent's, so before the rain came....I washed it. Also replaced some burned out lights and replaced some horribly corroded battery terminals.
Radiator tomorrow, and possibly rear shocks as well.

Radiator is done.....and there are two things about it:
                1) That stupid bottom trans hose is a pain to get out, but I did get it.
                2) When it leaked profusely, the temp never went higher than 190. Now, it runs at 200-210. And yes, I bled the air out properly. I'm just not sure if there is still a little air in it, or if the thermostat needs to be replaced.

                Ideas about the temp?

Changed the thermostat today and it solved the issue. Now running steady at 180-190.

Quick Update: Nothing big today, but did take care of some faded areas like the headlight surrounds and grill. I'll snap pics tomorrow. Also cleaned a shit ton of helicopters out of the cowl area.

Update: Picked up a bunch of parts over the past two days. Thanks to Tim and Travis for helping me out. There's what was acquired:
                          -(4) 31" Kuhmo MT's
                          -Muffler and Tailpipe
-Front and rear bumpers in mint shape
                          -3rd Roof rack rail
                          -Front and rear shocks
-Steering stabilizer (2 actually-One stock, one aftermarket)

Goal this week is to get the exhaust replaced on Wednesday. If time allows, I'll also install the new bumpers and more than likely remove the bumper caps for good.

                            Update:
This is no longer a Rot-free XJ
Removed all the flares and end caps. Installed the 45 degree angle cut front bumper. When I removed the passenger rear bumper cap....holy rot fest. Pics should be up tonight. The funny thing is, where it got hit on the driver's side in the rear, under the cap was perfection. No damage, no rot, no rust.
