Most of you have probably seen this thread about 20 times over the past several years, but I figured I would make another and see if there are any new opinions out there.
I will be buying another "suv" in the next few weeks. I need it for winter, and while I hadnt planned on buying one just yet, I need to move all my stuff up from florida and I rather just buy something now and tow then spend 1200 bucks on a uhaul truck.
My go to truck is the 96+ zj 5.2 or 5.9. Solid as a freaking rock, power to idle up a cliff, comfort, and easy modding for the kind of off roading I still have left in me (ill prob do 3-4" with 33's).
Next, as you all probably expected, is the land rover discovery series 1. I am told, by land rover people (biased? no way!) that the 4.0's on these things are 400k motors. I dont give a shit about the radio face lights blinking when I turn on my blinker, or the sun roof not opening every time, but start - go - and stop reliability is a must. Especially for the initial 3000 mile trip I will be doing, half of it with a trailer.
Honestly, I havent driven a LRD1 in a while, but I remember liking it - aside from the fact that the v8 is as ball-less as they come. I think I want to go this route... somewhat just for a change. But if these things arent reliable, its out of the question. I know the zj wont let me down.
So, thoughts:
