basically on more than one topic this entire situation fucking sucks and theres ignorance on all side of all the topics. unless youre willing to go down there and help then quit complaining enough isnt being done. if your biggest concern about this is whats gonna happen to BP or that your FL beach front property is not pretty anymore please rethink about whats overall the important shit going on...priorities of some of the opinions i hear are just mind boggling.

The view shouldn't be a concern, but when that oil starts to pollute the water and poison your beach on property you own / paid money for, is a concern. If someone dumped 500 gallons of oil on my street, I'd be MORE pissed that some of it got onto my property rather than someone elses property. I'd have so much gritty-kitty litter in my driveway soaking up that oil that cats from the tri-state area would come to my house to take a shit.
While the disaster is on a scale a million times larger than my example, people have reasons to be pissed. Ever try renting out a house where the water is replaced by crude oil? Not many people want to rent beachfront houses on beaches you cannot swim on.sigpic

what i want to know.... if the name of the company is BP or "beyond petroleum"..... i thought they were like supposed to be making corn gas and that kinda crap. Why where they drilling petroleum, the thing they claim to be beyond??
Also would like to take the chance to point out that if drilling closer to american shores was permitted, then the well we'd be trying to plug right now wouldn't be 1 mile below the surface of the water.
And where are the engineers here... we can put men on the moon, but we can't get a valve over a 27 inch wide pipe and close it. Not for nothing but its plumbing 101, big leak..... you get an open valve over the pipe with relatively minor issues and then close it via somekind of motor. i mean i'm no engineer and don't pretend to be, but you really mean to tell me that there is no one out there in this nation of science and technology and innovation that can plug this hole.Last edited by Zullock Holmes; 06-02-2010, 01:01 AM.No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Where to start, where to start...Well, I'm no engineer either, but you must understand one massive obstacle here, and it is the fact that this leak is at the Bottom of an Ocean. This is so vastly different than outside of our atmosphere it's mind boggling. Even if we plugged that hole, a buildup of pressure can simply puncture a new hole near the area. We aren't trying to do something in a weightless environment, we are trying to build something where the very elements that these pieces are submerged in will rot and decay at almost double the speed. Specialized submersibles must and are being made, most of which cannot be piloted by humans, instead are computer controlled from the surface. You absolutely must understand that the final frontier of human exploration is not Mars or anything beyond our solar system, it is right here on Earth, in the deepest trenches and most desolate seas where there is absolutely no light at all and the pressure could destroy any alien creature to the environment. The only thing preventing us from exploring the furthest reaches of space is Time, while the only thing preventing us from exploring the vastness of the ocean's deep is our own technology.
Also you must understand that Oil doesn't just equal Gas and oil for your vehicles. Crude oil can become many things like synthetic rubber and all types of plastics. To think that only gasoline comes from the oil leaking into the gulf is beyond absurd.sigpic

Also, I didnt read the whole thread, but I saw Court and Phil talking about land issues, if they cant cap this and it gets into the current it will come up the whole east coast, its not just the gulf states that have to worry. You better decide if you are hanging on the cross, or banging in the nails
