I voted for you, of course.
I sat at the base of a tree for 4 hours on the first day, from 5 in the morning to 9, opened my backpack, ate my lunch, then started to walk around the woods. I probably scared away most of the deer, but I didn't fucking care. The next day, it was the same shit. Sit and wait and sit and wait and sit and wait.
The only redeeming thing was I found a Coyote skeleton and kept the skull, gave it to my sister and she thought it was the coolest thing ever. When I left the farm on the second day, we got into the truck and drove down the road not 15 feet and there were 2 deer grazing on the side of the road. I told my buddy to pull over because I was going to blow them away, but he didn't find it funny.
Needless to say I wasn't invited deer hunting the next year and I don't miss it. I'll try dove shooting, anything that involves a shotgun, before I sit down at the base of a tree and get bored out of my skull. I know, I'm looking for instant gratification, fine, say it all you want, bad hunter, great, this is me crying, but there was no gratification at all being there (other then the coyote skull) because I didn't learn anything, I didn't see anything, nothing fucking happened, and how do we know deer were in the area? We didn't and I've never walked around for 2 days with a loaded gun and never got to pull the trigger before. Ever, and I hope it never happens again.Last edited by Buffalo Phil; 04-25-2010, 12:35 AM.sigpic

you can deer hunt around here and its not boring.
and i know this story isn't really hunting, but still it could have been if i had a gun other than a video camera.
when i was taking television production we had to make a nature video, so while most people took shots of flowers in the winds and birds...... i set out to get the good stuff.
I tracked 3 deer for about 4 hours late one afternoon, it was awesome, in the end i got a total of like 5 minutes of great footage and some pretty sweet shots. i wish i had a copy of the finished product, it came out really well. but like i said following them was a lot of fun, i could have never sat and waited though. No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

To be honest, I'll probably never go deer hunting again. It doesn't do anything for me. Maybe hog hunting down in Texas or something, or bird hunting out in the plains, but around here in CT, everything fucking sucks.sigpic

Bird hunting and deer hunting are totally different. Bird hunting you have a dog and are walking the whole time. Deer hunting is sweet tho, but you have to be prepared to wait. I find it relaxing sitting in that stand and once those deer come it is a rush of adrenaline that I cannot put into words. It is awesome to watch a family of deer eat corn five yards below and have no clue you are there.P8R

Hunting is one of my favorite things to do. Deer hunting especially. I count down the days to the next deer season pretty much. I picked up bow hunting 2 years ago and got my first day last fall. There have been days I woke up at 530, got into the stand at around 6 or 615, got down for lunch at 12, than sat up there again until it was just about dark. For that shot of adrenaline when that buck comes into bow range, the last 6 hours of waiting go out the window.
I like sitting up there and learning their patterns and behavior. Its kinda cool to watch them up close and see how "smart" they really are. It's fun to sit there 15 feet above them and have them not know you are there. It's funny when they look directly at you, move their head a little, than just go "meh, its nothing" and go back to eating haha.
Im not crazy I swear, I just love the thrill of it.
97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

phil's deer hunting experience reminds me of ron white's skit about deer hunting
