  • We all could have been killed, by exploding tires.

Not sure if this should have went in tech or here, but check it out....

Im sure you all remember hawk but back a few years ago, he popped the bead of his tire back on with starter fluid.....

Bad idea... Watch this video from firestone, very dangerous shit, that tire could have exploded . People have died from this...

Not much heat was applied to the tire. But the heat inside the tire chamber is not from the heat from the rim, its from a chemical reaction inside the tire itself. The chemical rxn caused the air in the tire to heat up and explode almost 2 minutes later...

    Check the video, crazy stuff..........

setting a bead with and then pulling the S-Valve from the stem to let it drain and applying heat to a truck tire with 90 PSI are two COMPLETELY different things. Nobody was in any danger

When i tried to mount my hummer 36s for the dodge I used like half a can of starter fluid and the fucker still wouldnt expand enough. those are stiff ass tires tho. all it did was set the tire on fire. My buddy ended up mounting them with one of those cheetah inflators

if you watch the video, it didnt matter the tire had 90 PSI. It can happen at 8 psi. There is a chemical reaction inside the rubber compound that creates heat as a bi-product, which thus expands the air in the tire and explodes.. Look how quickly the temp and air pressure rose. It was climbing pretty fast. It wouldnt really matter if you started at 8 psi or 90 psi, the pressure would eventually climb high enough to explode the tire.

Also in the video the guy explains a scenario where a guy knew that this reaction would happen so he pulled the valve core to relieve the pressure and the pressure built so fast that it exploded anyway.

i tried that man, pounded some small sizes on it with a big breaker. if that wouldve worked i wouldnt have had to torch it.

edit: it was one of those terrible fucking two piece cheapo lugnuts that just stripped and stripped to nothing.
