to recycle the battery they shred the plastic material, recover and process the metal and neutralize the alkaline material before sending it to a landfill.

the process to do such things is so harmful to the environment they can't do it in the united states, so they ship the batteries overseas.

but hey, when they say thier batteries are 97% recycleable it looks good to the tree huggers. too bad there are unwanted by-products from that process.
