I'm just bitter about the whole area, I've been to nice parts and then the parts with armed trucks driving around with mounted 50cals in the back and militia at every street corner. Anyway if I can give you some serious advise it would be not to wonder off too far from the resort when the sun goes down. Some of the bars around the direct proximity of the resort should be alright. Other then that, the islands are usually a completely different beast at night. The hotel will usually give you an area of the island not to wonder off into. They have a reason for doing this and typically its for the right reasons.

Jamaica is really nice from what I heard. If you have your SCUBA cert. Go diving. I don't know if there are many wrecks off the island but usually Caribbean wrecks are the best to see due to the clear warm water. If anything it should have some sick reefs.

I hope this helps more then my last post You'll have a great time

The resort we are going to says they will train you for scuba. So I was excited about that. Premium drinks are all included too so we probably wont be going to a bar outside the resort. Although I told katie I wanted to explore the locals cuz she was scared about the whole .50 cal etc etc thing.

I understand all that though, been in some shitty places and I know how they can be(the locals that is) wasnt going to subject katie to that.

I don't think Jamaica has the whole 50cal thing. I would definitely take an island tour or go to some beach without a resort. Those are usually the nicest (and have dirt cheap beer) if its anything like St. Thomas/St.John's/Tortola then they have these awesome open Cabs. A F-350 with the back chopped off, welded benches on the back and a canopy for a roof. Its one of the best ways to see the island I think. (the amount of fun you will have will increase depending on how much you drink....just trust me here). I'm always a big fan of the non touristy beaches since you get a real feel for the island. You need to get out of the resort at least a few times.

I would x2 the whole don't get to far off the resort thing. A lot of the people there are looking to swindle you out of your money. And then they'll do shit like ask any girl you're with if they want their hair corn-rowed. Then when you say no they'll say something like "OH IS IT CAUSE I'M BLACK?" and make a big fuckin scene.

I've been to Jamaica 3 times...it's an awesome place. It does get a little questionable outside of the resorts. The weed there is sick! I was there for spring break and we got a 1/4 lb. of sticky lime green branches of nugget for $80 U.S.! Every price in Jamaica is negotiable..if your white and touristy looking the price for everything doubles. Seriously, negotiate! Try the rum punch in Jamaica but be hesitant to drink a lot of it because white rum will knock you on your ass. Try all of the foods there, they have a lot of exotic fruits that you will never have eaten in your life but their good. Breadfruit is a typical breakfast meal as well as "acki" which is a salted fish. See if you can score yourself some curry conch "sp?". I went to a place called Rick's Cafe and jumped off of a 50 foot cliff into the water, it was exhilarating. It didn't hurt that I drank about 8 Red Stripes (Jamaica's primary beer) and smoked down 2 spliffs on the way there and then signed a paper that pretty much said if you die we are not responsible before I jumped. I visited Bob Marleys house, that was a good time but that's in Kingston, the roughest part of Jamaica. The cops carry around M-16's, no joke. Don't let them catch you smoking "ganja" in the street or else they will arrest you. You can bribe the cops if you get pulled over, and they WILL put weed in your car to try and arrest you and get money from you. They are corrupt over there. Try the blue mountain coffee too, it will be the best coffee you have ever had in your life, its grown in the highest mountains in Jamaica. Bring suntan lotion and enjoy yourself...the water is crystal clear. Climb the dunns river falls depending on what part you are staying...Negril is the most touristy most popular spring break spot. Hope this helps.

be careful about resort scuba certs.... if you ever want to really go diving it wont be legit. its usually just a one- 3 day class that they say "certifies" you just to get more money. then when you come back to the states youll be highly disappointed. however if your looking for a one time thing then go for it.

Anyway, thanks for all the info. The resort we are staying at has those RZR buggy things we are going to take out and explore. We are also going to the dunns river falls. We are staying in Ocho Rios then exploring out from there.

Sounds awesome though, can you find were they bar/cliff jump was exactly? That was one thing I really wanted to do while I was there.
