Just got back from seeing it and I have to say I was pretty impressed by it. The set the entire backdrop of a post apocalyptic world perfectly and the chaos and dismay that follows, thought I have to say, I base my opinions on a working post-apocalyptic world on Fallout 3 - I see it as a good standard.
Anyway, the whole Mad Max / Road Warrior thing works out and it works well. The entire way the movie is filmed is done perfectly to create the mood and environment in which the story takes place. The opening scene is pretty fucking cool, but if you have a bleeding heart for cats in the name of Survival, then I'd close my eyes until the Title.
The movie is Heavily based on religion, so if you get offended by it, then die in a fire. You have to go into this movie with the understanding of the basis on religion, but the movie itself is by no means preachy. I think it borrowed a very heavy element from the end of Fahrenheit 451 at the end of the movie, and I won't spoil it, but if you've read Fahrenheit 451, you will know what I mean.
The plot has some interesting twists and turns and the gun battles are a bit hokey, not going to lie, but the guns they use are pretty sweet. Eli used a sawed off Remington 870 while the Bad Guys, headed by Gary Oldman's character use a variety of guns such as the Browning Hi-Power, AK-47s, FN FALs and FNCs and various other fun stuff. Washington does a damn good job too as the Stoic Eli, using his life to protect the book he is carrying.
I'd say go see it, it's epic to say the least. It starts off fast then drags a bit in the middle but wraps up perfectly. More character development could have been used, but hey, I guess they wanted everything to be left to the imagination.
