Another computer virus question.

I heard about a new virus that deals with McAfee Virus scan where a pop up appears in the lower right hand corner saying "you computer is not fully protected"..."please check your protection statues in McAfee SecurityCenter and fix any problems."

And the options are
"check protection status" or "close"



i want to hit close because last time we had i virus on this laptop it dealt with McAfee... McAfee sux! but my rents insist. And I also heard from an unreliable person that if you hit "Close" the popup window will stay there forever... so you can see my hesitation.

hit check, and the it should say Fix. try that. most likely something is messed up. Macafee sucks horribly bad. download malware bytes to do a full scan with that to be safe.

why do they insist? mcafee is alright, but its not doing anything anymore. your subscription is expired, when you hit fix its gonna be like "hey give us 30 bucks for another year mmk"

i recommend deleting it fully, then installing avg free anti virus.

I would get rid of it. If you aren't going to buy a new subscription its just eating up resources and bothers the fucking shit out of you (I'm guessing, since its on everyone else's computer that I haven't removed it off). Download AVG free edition, and get Spybot Search & Destroy and run it periodically when you have the time to let it run all the way through. And when you install those two things, don't install any kind of yahoo toolbar, ask.com toolbar, or anything like that.

CC cleaner is a good free program too.

AVG I have always been a bit cautious about.

Panda... is good not sure about the freeness though. There are others. Some are better than others or use Symantec/ Mcafee type signatures and are a bit behind.

Best bet is to ride the web as a user and not as admin.

Another option would be to run an alternate OS for surfing. Redhat, Susi, CentOS, or my favorite flavor Backtrack...

Never use apple unless you are a pickle puffer or you reverse ingest large sausages.
