I just don't understand why everyone thinks they are gods gift to sports. They are a soda company. You don't drink soda to play sports or get hydrated.

Not to mention the fact that they tried to put a small time brewery out of business for the sole fact that they had a beer called "Vermonster" even though neither one is in the same market and never will be.

Monster, DC, Redbull, all of them...they have the "xtreme" scene by the fucking nuts...somehow they have created a direct tie between a pair of shoes and a drink, to motorsports and being a viral celebrity...

marketing at its finest when you have the people eating out of your hands for something completely unrelated to your product i'd say

not saying i really hate these companies or anything...but its amusing at least

DC has always been related to extreme sports... theyve started with just skate shoes years ago but have been making gear for bmx, skateboarding, snow sports, motox... pretty much everything for a long time now. when i bmx'd years ago i wore DC and had DC pads

im referring to motorsports having no relation whatsoever other than money to a product sold by either company...skating and BMXing is another scene altogether..

i guess i should have said "xtreme motorsports" scene..like a monster shannon campbell buggy, a monster short course CORR truck, a redbull rally car..blah blah you know the deal

I agree it is cool that they are shedding a lot more light on WRC, and having a big name American driver will definatly boost the popularity. But as far as the company being cool? You are right, I just plain old think its stupid. They make soda. They don't make anything related to extreme sports, pads, helmets, vehicle parts, anything. It is just pure, unadulterated mass marketing, and I hate it.

coke, acer, and mcdonalds are three GIANT worldwide sponsors for the 2010 olympics, nextel is the main sponsor for nascar, and before that winston fucking cigarettes was the big sponsor. mcdonalds also sponsors the NFL, and is the main sponsor for the pro bowl this year, fucking TACO BELL is a huge sponsor for the nba..... what do any of those brands have to do with any of the associated events being sponsored?

i dont understand why youre crying a river about mass marketing. YOU LIVE IN A FUCKING ADVERTISEMENT. media and mass marketing SURROUND and CONTROL you whether you like it or not. red bull has always been associated with extreme sports... has been since the company was launched. monster is competing with them. theres a word for this... fuck, what is it again? oh yea, capitalism.

the one big thing i notice the most...and i mean, when you sponsor something you can put your logo wherever the hell you want...but i just feel like with both monster and red bull their logos are seriously EVERYWHERE...and those logos have become a 'cool' thing to wear and represent..
