  • V8 Grand Cherokee

I am probably going to be getting a Grand Cherokee to replace my XJ. Right now I have my eye on a 02 WJ.

I know the inline 6s have the same reputation as they do in XJ's which would be nice. But I test drove an 02 WJ V8 and god dam, that thing is fast. Does anyone know how the V8 motor in those WJ's stacks up as far as reliability and such? I haven't dealt with anything that isn't an XJ in quite a few years. I don't want to get duped into something that is going to nickel and dime me like some POS I had in high school. The body, interior and motor on the 02 looked great. No visible rust on the under carriage either. Had a factory gas tank skid, four wheel discs, etc. Pretty excited about it.

155k and as far as I know nothing major has gone wrong, just routine maintenance. My dad has an 02 WJ laredo V8 with 88k and has had nothing wrong with it either.

I've got an 01 WJ with the 4.7, the 4.7 motor is lightyears ahead of the 4.0 as far as technology goes. It is a great motor. The grand cherokees however have stupid little expensive problems that go wrong. For one the heated seats are prone to failure and the elements are very expensive, window mechanisms are known to fail, the dual heater controls are also something that is known to fail after years of use and is very expensive to fix. Then the stupid shit that gets me is some fluids on that thing is a chrysler special. Transfer case fluid is a dealership item, engine coolant is a dealership item and if you don't use it the thing will eat away at all the aluminum in the engine.

Having said that I love mine cause it's a nice driving vehicle, good power and is super duper fancy inside
