The few kids I have talked to about UTI said that it sucked and was a waste of time.

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

ha I left out the fact that another friend didn't go to school at all. He worked at a garage for a few years and made money instead of paying for school. He also works for porshe. So who knows

Do any of the Tech schools offer actual degrees, or certificates? That is something you should look into.

BTW My friend went to Baran Institute for Motorcycle Mechanic and loved it.

Most of the schools offer a certificate, which as I looked into this more I discovered I can get an associates degree from Gateway Comm College in Automotive Technology for less than half the cost of one of these tech schools. Plus I already have a lot of community college credits under my belt. So that seems like the best route. Thanks for all your advice and opinions everyone
No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

def is. At least you have a real degree to fall back on, and like you said, it's cheap.
                North Haven campus ftw.
It has parking, windows, and less urban youth.
Basically, it's not a prison like the new haven campus.

I went to a 2 year tech in NH and it was a waste of time. it was fucking easier then highschool. Shure i got an associates degree but the school was all screwed up.

They teach you like grammar school, grade you like a university, act and try to be a university and the administration and office people try to fuck you in any way possible because when you 2 weeks away from getting your degree they magically forgot a class you need to take or they told you to take the wrong one so your sol.

Just say no to tech schools.

If I was you guys I would look into some kind of engineering degree. Mechinical or Aerospace are both used in the automotive field a lot.

I know a lot of mechs, private shops, bmw, and porche audi techs. The general input I have got from the all over the years is that 90% of them loved cars, loved working on them. after 10 to 20 years of doing it they hated there job and life, its just a pay check now.

The few that loved it were extremely succesful at and making well into the 6 digit figures.(most of these guys worked for Porche) and were even giving input or inventing stuff for Porche to make there cars better.

So im not saying dont do it, but look at the bigger picture. I love cars personally, all kinds of cars. I at one point wanted to be a mech, but I research everything way in depth from every point and see what is the room for improvement, where can this take me. There was just not a lot of places to go in that field which didnt excite me.

Oh and FWIW I went to a tech school for Computer Science for a year, decided it was the biggest joke/waste of time and dropped out before I was too much in debt from payments.

Now I found a company that will pay for my School, I am looking at engineering degrees probably going to go with Software Engineer

I agree with Cody. I'm in my last year of college for an Engineering degree and although, it takes over my life, and a HUGE chunk and happiness, I dont think I would do anything else especially in this economy. Most of the jobs out there will hire Engineers right out of school.

Why can't anyone on a site of car enthusiasts spell porsche correctly?

I agree with what Cody is saying 100%. My uncle worked for Danbury Porsche as one of the top level mechanics and didn't like it all that much after awhile. He now owns a hydraulic shop with my aunt and enjoys it a lot more.

I would look into engineering degrees well before a tech degree. As John said, I know many engineers that got high paying jobs out of school. My cousin got hired out of school as a project manager for Verizon Fios and another friend was hired before he even had his degree in hand for G.E.
