we have a 99 a4 quattro 1.8 t 5 spd in the shop since friday. needs a front left axle.
on friday we get the part in from the parts house, wrong part, they send a new one, clearly the wrong shaft.
we go to a different parts house, clearly the wrong shaft, yet different from the first 2. we get another shaft from this place, clearly the wrong shaft, yet different from the first 3. i put the car back together and the kid drives the car all weekend.
it comes back monday and the parts guy asks me to count the splines on the shaft- 37 he tells me "oh you got the rare shaft. he special orders it from some warehouse somewhere and its here by the end of the day, while this car is stuck on my lift. the shaft looks good, i go to put it in. and it's about 3/8" too long. for shits and giggles i measure the passenger shaft, perfect length, they sent me a passenger shaft it seems. we still got a little time left at work. order a new shaft telling the parts guy it appears to be a passenger shaft. he tells me "no it's the drivers shaft" I call the dealer for a shaft $600, fuck that, but i have them run the vin and give me a part number. I go on alldata and check the oem part number, they match. I call the parts house we deal with usually and give them the part number so they can cross reference it. they tell me that isn't even an audi part number. and they need to order it and itll be in tomorrow. i have him e-mail the shop a picture of it, looks right. crossing my fingers right now its the right fuckin part.
