  • China vs. America

So today I was trying to replace by broken u-joint (which is why I'm not at realness).

I already went to Advanced Auto and got u-joint made in China.

    I have:
    1 Craftsman vise
    1 Vise made in China
1 My grandfathers vise made in Meridan, CT
1 u- joint made in china

Start of the project- China vise number 1 breaks - my own stupid fault

Take 2 - Craftsman vise breaks for no apparent reason - split base in half

    Take 3 - American vise breaks China's u-joint like a toothpick

were you trying to use the vise as a press?

i just use it as a base to loosely rest the u joint/shaft in as i tap it out witta hamma

No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

That's how my buddy (mechanic at local GM certified stealership) taught me how to do it.

you shouldnt use a vise for a ujoint other then to hold the shaft you will breake the vise or bend the ears of the shaft

you also shouldn't put the driveshaft on a 4x4 piece of wood and pound out the ujoint. My friend's duramax now has a square driveshaft. Well, not entirely square, just two flat sides

I know this now because the ears are bent and two of my three vices are broken
