My dad sports a Glock 23, no idea what it cost him.

I think an XD is a great choice because I see a lot of gun owners with them on forums. When I turn 20 I'll start shopping around, but until then there is no point lol.

Go with the springfield 1911, and select the GI package probbably one of the best bangs for your buck! The XDM is nice but if your looking for a nice handgun the 1911 is wear its at!
The XDM I feel is more of a gimmick, they give you all the accessories just to lure you into making a purchase and many people have never even shot one. Half the time they're just people who feel the need to own a pistol (all those nuts who are at cabelas buying anything they can)
Honestly its a real good deal but it all depends on what your plans are, if you want it for a DC its a nice light compact pistol but or if your only gonna have it on you on random occasions something a little heavier isnt so bad..

HK-P7: good for CCW, but expensive and 9mm.

Depends on your purposes of course.

A Ruger Mark III is always good for cheap plinking and it comes in various trim levels to fit your budget. I'm a fan of the Hunter or Government Competition versions. I have no idea what version Phil's red one is but it looks cool.

I'll probably be scolded for this but I'm not a fan of the .40s or .45s for concealed carry. I'd rather be comfortable for the 99.999% of the time that it's going to be dead weight than have enough stopping power to drop a rampaging gorilla in one hit. If it ever got that serious I'd just doubleclick.

That said, I am a fan of the Walther PPK for concealed carry. It's small enough to carry around under just a t-shirt without scaring the locals, it has been around for almost 80 years so it's time-tested, and it's made of metal so you can always hit somebody with it as a last resort. It shoots .380auto which is really just a 9mm with a little less powder behind it. Throw some hollowpoints in it and you should be ready for business.

                        I bought a full size S&W M&P in 9mm. Then I realized....A) Why did I buy a full size to carry concealed. B) Why did I buy a 9mm.

So I traded it in for a Glock 27. I usually carry it in the small of my back. Didn't have to buy larger pants, just move my belt out one buckle. It sits really low so there is no big grip sticking out the back of my shirt. Its .40 cal so its got some stopping power and a wide variety of ammo available. There are also tons of accessories available for it.

                        Fits in my hand

The way it comes from the factory

And I put a small grip extension on it so my pinky finger has some real estate.

Comes in about 550$ with a 25$ holster that is in the first picture.

My dad has a S&W full size m&p 9. I like it alot, it shoots really nice. Full size isnt that bad IMO.

I'd rather have a Ruger MkII honestly. No magazine Disconnect and no stupid loaded chamber indicator. Mine used to be a Ruger MkII, but now it is just the lower. The upper is a Tactical Solutions Pac-Lite Upper, aluminum barrel with a steel sleeve insert with chamber and rifling, makes the pistol real like and great to shoot.

I carry the 9mm only because I carry the HKP7. It is a safe pistol to carry and dead nuts reliable and the lack of features makes it easy to use, if you know how to use it.

Phil do you know the laws on silencers? I've seen a few different threaded barrels for the glock, which might allow me to shoot on the property behind my house that I otherwise could not use due to the noise.
