For home use, osx is the way to go.
Reason 1: Windows. Blows.
- The gui and interaction methods usable in osx/on a mac just blow away windows/pc's. like hot corners, multi touch trackpad, quick sleep/wake
- activex is a magnet for issues.
Reason 2: Performance
- osx is quick as fawk, particularly snow leopard. its caching methods use the hard drive MUCH less and hence programs are opened much quicker and smoother.
- battery performance on mac's is generally much better than that of an equal pc. apple uses new battery technology, doesnt have much to do with the OS.
- Run geekbench in windows 7, vista, or xp against osx - osx will have significantly higher benchmarks
Reason 3: Build quality. Apple puts alot of money and engineering into having a perfect mix of durability and weight.
That's my brief explanation.
However, for business use OSX is well... useless.2001 TJ

when i was shopping around i either had to choose between a beast of a machine (high end core 2 duo, ddr3 ram, big HD, graphics card, but weighed 7lbs, were 15" 16:9 widescreens.. i wanted something smaller, and got 2-2.5hours battery life) or a smaller more portable machine with good battery life (SU9400 processor.. low watt, fast but would limit me when doing processor heavy tasks). the smaller machines also had ddr3 ram, 3mb caches, and the one i almost bought had a 80GB SSD HD. but they didnt have graphics cards either.
the thing with the macbook i got is its everything. beastly processor, ddr3 ram, nvidia 9400 graphics, VERY small, lightweight, 160gb hd, AND 6.5-7 hours of battery life. that and i know its quality, the warranty is stupid good and the keyboard lights up.
it was a little more money than what i wanted to spend (i really only wanted to spend 8-900), but in the end im happy with it. im just sad i have to give up my zune for an effing ipod now since theres no apple support for them
