  • GM !!!

i forgot who, but someone here called that they were going to file for bankruptcy today.

    http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/31030038?GT1=43001

    i like these lines

As it reorganizes, GM will rely on $30 billion of additional financial assistance from the Treasury Department and $9.5 billion from Canada. That’s on top of about $20 billion in taxpayer money GM already has received in the form of low-interest loans.

GM revealed Monday that it will permanently close nine more plants and idle three others.

The Pontiac, Mich., and Wilmington, Del., assembly plants will close this year, while plants in Spring Hill, Tenn., and Orion, Mich., will shut down production but remain on standby. One of the idled plants will be retooled to build a small car that GM had originally planned to build in China.
fuck you GM....im going to go buy an American built Toyota Tundra.

If I understood that right, they're just taking a car that they were going to release in china and making it here in the US. By doing this they're keeping jobs for some people.

yeah i read that part wrong, but they are still closing down a lot of American plants. and its still bullshit that they get to fuck up and get tons of taxpayer money. where was our (US taxpayers) say in this? I by no means understand the big picture, and i don't understand all the underlying reasons, but from my point of view it pisses me off.

I think they are doing that to dissolve the union mainly, well, holding those plants Idle at least. The article won't tell you that though, but a lot of companies have done it in the past. Everyone loves unions and benefits, but they have outlived their stay in today's economy.

For all of you that have Badmouthed Dickerman's 'Taxes are Stealing' shirt, don't you think this is more or less stealing from the American people and giving their money to a corporation they simply don't want anymore? Sure we need fire stations, police stations and public transportation, but in this case, don't you see the need to somewhat realize a small truth to those three simple words? Why are we being forced to give a government money so they can simply misuse it and dump it into companies and organizations over and over and over again, constantly comforting their fall with assloads of money provided by the american who DOES'T even work there?

        Hurmmmm.....

that's one of my biggest quarrels with this, I've never owned a GM product in my life but yet my money still goes to them.

Bush was still president when the idea of the bailout started. our whole structure of taxes and gov. is fucked. not just obama, if it wasn't him in office right now, we would be complaining about someone else

But it didn't start with Bush, it started back 20 years ago when these companies first went Bankrupt and we gave them money then.

But you're right, if someone else was in office, we would be bitching about them saving these companies, because that is the problem: THEY are saving these companies and not letting a free market exist.

Yeah, I have never owned a GM product either, but now I feel since we are moving into such a socialistic form of Government, why doesn't the fucking Kenyan send me a pickup truck?

After seeing what the new camaro looks like, I'd rather see a billion dollar bomb get dropped on some enemies of the state then that ugly shitbox driving around. They could have used that all that money from research and development and researched and developed a way for that car not to suck.

                        lulz.

I was watching price is right this morning and Obamas speech came on about this interrupting but i decided to watch. that 30 billion is an investment into GM, not a loan like last time. He assured us that all warranties with GM cars will be backed by the government as well and urged us to buy now because there should be no worry buying a GM now. He said GM put together a new plan, and the government approved it putting them on a strict, but fair program.

He also stated that chrysler has made huge strides the last month and sales are going up. They are gradually being bought by Fiat and are bouncing back, therefore, Obama is not helping them out anymore. Chryslers May sales were higher then Aprils

I know someone that bought a brand new dodge dually with a cummins for $19k. With prices like that I would expect people to be buying more.
