  • Who knows anything about motorcycle carbs?

need help before i light my bike on fire.

wont idle smooth, any bit of throttle sends the revs to 4k and they stay there until i use the idle screw to lower it; then it drops to 800(stall) until i raise the idle. vid sums it all up:

    BORKED
    winng. all the goddamned time.

i would check the needles to see if they are getting hung up on something..

as much as i love carbs for the ease of changes, i hate them when they go wrong.. i just put a mikuni on my sporty, and now i cant ride it.. waiting for jets to come and cant get back on the dyno till 2nd week of may.. ugh..

one is not a big deal.. but when you have 4 of them, its worse.

Sounds like a slide hanging up to me. Are they Mikuni carbs? You can remove the air filters and put a mirror in there where you can see if all of the slides are moving up and down in sync. You'd need a pretty long and skinny mirror...maybe an old rear view mirror would work.
Either that or one or more of the carbs isn't sealed on the intake and it's pulling false air making it surge like hell.

sounds like a lean issue, is the throttle cable sticking? nething blocking the new jets? sounds like you may need to replace the spring for the main jet? check air fuel mixture, ive had my fair share of carb nightmares

ok so today i went out and turned the screws another 3/4 turn. that did good things. then i added a shim under the needles. that did good things. i noticed the diaphragm on one of the sliders had ben pinched by the cover so i RTVd it. that did good things.

so now, i have a bike that only stutters from a stop up to 3k. then, while cold wil work like normal. but when hot, 1/4 throttle works mint but more than that and it still goes up the revs but the power drops to about 3/4 with random sputters of full power. fuckin a.
