  • SCHOOL HELP!

Ok, for extra credit I need to find out how a chop saw electric brake works. I tried google for about 45mins and got nothing. You guys got anything?

My chop saw doesn't have a brake on it.

is this the thing they did on Time warp? i think it senses electrical conductivity through the blade which slams a block of metal into the blade causing it to stop

Yeah mine either but the high end ones have an electric brake and I need to know how that works

Nope its not that thing. This stops the blade due to something in the magnetic field of the motor

well it may have to do with electricity and magnetism

but actually i feel like it may work on the same principal. it could somehow use electricity to create a magnetic field

I can see you're no electrician.

When you put electricity to a motor, it energizes the poles and creates a magnetic field in the stator (not moving) to move the rotor (moving). The rotating field moves the rotor. Somehow this brake reverses the attraction and stops the blade in less then a second instead of it just slowing down.

thats what i wanted to say in a much more technical term

You're the engineer. Figure it out.

maybe that helps. DC injected into AC.
