  • Well, well, well...

So I think I'm buying a WJ. In fact, I know I want a WJ. It's just a matter of actually purchasing.

Nope, I don't have any plans to wheel it. The old XJ taught me that toy=/=DD. I just want a stout vehicle to transport my tired ass to and from work. I have been riding 2-wheels now for like two months straight now and want the security of foul weather protection.

That said, I'm hear to pick brains, again. Everything I've read says the v8 is the better choice, with selectrac being the transfers case if I want 2wd. I want a hitch to throw bikes on a carrier (kind of irrelevant).

There's an 02 4.7 Selectrac, 160k, for sale near me but it has an icky Rough Country 4" lift. As far as I know, it's not the best. But really, I don't want that much lift #ever but I'd prefer not to have to pay more for something to replace it. He's asking 4500, but I'm not paying over 3700. My real question is, should I bite on something with the lift I don't want on it, or wait for a similarly clean example without a lift.

TL/DR: Is a WJ 4" RC lift gonna cause more problems than it's worth, or will I be good just sticking with it until I find something I want more

I am severely turned off about the rust. Rockers are one thing, but the rear wheel well is daunting to me. And to be honest, I'd rather start with something I wasn't immediately inclined to fix.

      sorry nike-hole

edit: In reality, it will definitely see fire roads, some light trail stuff, and most devastatingly -- my driveway, but I don't want something I want to smash... because i will and I'll have regerts

mmm, tempting. I just finally have the cash to buy something nice, and I want to start with a clean (ish) slate. Pete's is very nice though. I was just perusing.

            oh come awn.

I'd avoid the standard 4" RC lift. The bushings are junk as well as the trackbar.

Mine is it great shape, but it's not perfect. I mean, it is a jeep with 200k on it. It will need rockers eventually, but from what I've seen that is an Easy problem to fix. Just cut out the old and weld in some 2x6. Other than that the interior and exterior are mint. Everything works too including the heated seats. Mechanically it's in great shape and has millions of new parts including the front upgraded brakes, all the sensors, electrical system, etc.

If you want I can send you a million pics of underneath and inside.

Another option is I can take out the 3/4" spacers and put some stock JK tires and wheels on it and you'd be at about 4-4.5" of lift and 32s... Or just leave the spacers and sell it t you on the jk wheels and tires.

no offense taken. it needs to go to someone who is willing to spend some time fixing it up. they all rust. just the way they were built and the nature of being in the northeast with salt. the JK gets a power washer attack anytime it snows or it goes near a beach. not letting that shit happen again!

Yeah, checked it out and the whole thing was rather loose feeling. My XJ was loose and I didn't mind because, well, it wasn't anything special and I spent 180 dollars on it.

I know it seems trivial, but I really want to buy a jeep that hasn't seen trails yet. I trust your work Pete, and I don't think there would be any problems that you wouldn't be aware of. But I know how hard wheeling is on a vehicle lol, and I just wanted to start with something that has had a cushy life of on road driving.

That said, I may have something parked in my driveway tonight if all goes well.

                    Because I don't need/want it anymore. I just bought a JK.

I completely get that Buying a lifted Jeep always has risks and I 100% understand the cushy DD part. Good luck with the purchase!

                      Here's hoping it works out.

I like riding a motorpooter, but after almost 49 days of riding a tiny death machine to work (30 mile round trip) I am ready to have a cage around me again.

Getting the WJ will be the fun part; the last time I was in the DMV though I was entombed for 8 hours because of computer failures.

I was in the DMV last week registering a vehicle and got in and out in an hour with zero problems.

That's good news, because I had this dropped off last night. Sorry for the shitty photo, I was on my way out the door to work.

04 Overland, 126k. Needs a little love, but I couldn't pass on it.

You'll see behind it, the free Explorer which is what this is replacing. Needless to say there was a reason it was free... Trans was soft but I didn't think it would only last 3k miles.

And behind that is the Old Saab, which after 50k faithful miles is ready to be sent to the farm with 307k on it.
