When Ferrari/Porsche/Aston make a fucking sports car, they KNOW the people buying that shouldn't give a flying shit about fuel economy. I mean seriously, if you're buying a Z06 or Z07, you obviously aren't commuting with it and you definitely have enough money to just buy a Kia to go to work in.

That's easy. Because of the Government. The restrictions get tougher and tougher on fuel economy every year, so every new car has to meet specific mpg requirements. You're right, it's a completely useless feature, but when .gov says you have to maintain a specific average fuel economy and the fact that gas prices just aren't going down, you're left with engineers that create fuel cut off and cylinder cut off features.

And only people like Jon Maru are goofy enough to buy vehicles that get single digit gas mileage.
