An unfortunate ordeal. But to play devils advocate, I would be suspicious of a car full of young kids late at night. Not sure how old you are, but it was also school night. I know it is our right to refuse a search, but I can only assume he pegged you for some punk smart ass and decided to screw with you by having you wait when you told him no.

Sounds like they did kinda abuse their power, but if I was them I would pull over a lifted jeep full of fuckers at night too. The Cops and FBI have been calling everyone in town claiming that burglary and breaking and entering are at an all time high and are offering huge discounts on alarm systems.

I have been pulled over 3 times every time by the same cop and he is always nice to me after he saw me in the middle of a 3 car pile up with my legacy totaled. Although, he did give me a cellphone ticket but that was my own dumb ass fault.

I didn't know the police and the FBI were in the alarm system business.

I always give my credit card information to the FBI when they call me on the phone. I thought that was normal

So little update. I got followed to my clients house by an officer.
I have to go pick up my clients in nyC and I take their car. Pull into their driveway, cop stops and crawls by. I left 5 mins later in their Lexus and the cop is pulled over one turn away from the house, and I'm assuming he was waiting for me. He didnt follow me cus I guess I'm in a different car.
This was 20 mins ago. What the fuck is using my right to refuse an unwarranted search this big of a deal to them?!

I never said we didn't look sketchy, but for us to be treated like we were known to be armed and violent was really over the top.

                    I have a few stories.
                    Cops do what they want.
Like pulling you over looking like I was going fast. Or are you in a hurry I timed a light perfectly. Or they say I had to step on it to catch up to you, no way really. Usually it is just a warning. Never admit to anything instant ticket.
youtube do not talk to cops.

One time they saw my pistol permit and flipped out yelling all kinds of stuff took me out of the car searched my car with no consent etc. Gave me my gun back and let me go.
Note to self don't put pistol permit under your drivers license.

I also got stopped, my wife and I pulled into the state forest parking lot the cop saw me turn around and stopped us. "what are you doing" I'm going for a hike in the state forest officer. Like how could that possible been seen as anything else.

Been pulled over for having a temp plate in plane view and the officer said where is your plate. Got pulled over 100ft from my house I didn't have the correct reg sticker on my plate and they told me my color was wrong, but my regs had the correct color.

Got pulled over for drive when it was snowing, he was coming toward me started yelling at me for driving over snow banks and stuff. I was just driving normal.

I guess having a big orange jeep and a mow hawk doesn't sit well with the local cops.

I've had cops take my knife at a bar, just held it until the end of the night. Wont let that happen again.
Got stopped in NYC on the subway for a knife apparently a 3" knife is illegal in NYC along with everything else.

Frisked for sitting outside a bar because I was too young to go in, my friends were in there.

In high school I got stopped by a normal person or maybe an off duty cop for almost going through a stop sign that was behind a bush that I didn't see then spun my tires a little in the rain trying to start up a hill.

Got pulled over after I was parked 5 miles away from where I pulled out and the other car had to step on the brake a little. (said it was reckless driving)

Got stopped countless times on the water on my boat.

One time I got a call from a cop asking if I got gas off the merit and forgot to pay. Said they had my plate, said I had girls in the back. I didn't but I said cannot remember the last time I was on the merit and I've always wished to have girls in the back. Then asked if they can describe the jeep because my jeep was a lifted CJ bright orange with flames and a full cage. not very mistakable. They got the plate but not the color BS.

I guess I have more than I thought.
And I never do anything wrong.

I guess if you deal with the scum of society all day you would have a bad taste in your mouth too. Abuse their power definitely. The problem is that they don't know the law there is no requirement for them to know the law so they just do what they think is write.

I got pulled over one night in my town. I was at a buddies place that was known for having parties and some sketchy people hang out there. I was the sober DD and we were heading to Cluck U actualy to get food at midnight. They imemdiately pulled out behind us and followed us all the way across town. Just before the town line he pulled me over. He said somebody threw a cig butt out the window, yet it was sitting in the ash tray. He asked for everybodies ID's, car info etc. and pulled us all out. He smelled booze in the car because others were drinking, but I got sobriety tested. Passed easily because, well, I was sober. One kid in the car was underage so he said he could get me for the influence of minors or whatever it is, yet I wasnt the one that gave him booze anyway. However, after 45 minutes in the snow on the side of the road we actually made "friends" with them. We knew one from the fire department and the other cop that showed up went to my college. No tickets or anything. He did take my buddies little pocket knife, but when we came home and pulled in the driveway the cop was there again, pulled in behind us, and gave him his knife back.

Aside from that, I've never had really terrible encounters with police. I keep a pretty low profile tho. I drive like a grandpa most of the time. I did get a warning in my jeep one night on Rt. 80 at midnight for weaving in my lane. He thought I was drunk. Nope, just how a lifted WJ drives

Got one ticket for improper maintenance of lights, but it was a knock down from a speeding ticket. It was on a road that drops to 30 and I was going 48.

It definitely paid to be on the fire department for awhile because I knew them all. I got out of a couple tickets from that. Andrew got pulled over once in his old cummings because "it was extremely loud"

They know the law, theyre just hoping that the people theyre illegally searching/harassing dont know the laws and probably 80% of the time the cops are correct in assuming the people dont know them.

Only have been pulled over once.

                          Got a ticket for speeding

Then he called my dad at my house and told him about it. Dealing with my dad was worse than dealing with the state trooper.

I have only had one encounter that was memoriable. I was driving home from the Silver Lake Sand Dunes in my lifted Explorer, doing the speed limit and minding my business when a cop car pulled out behind me and turned on the lights. 3 other cars were there within seconds. They all came to the back of the Exploder with guns drawn and flashlights looking in the backseat. Asked a couple questions and then told me that a child had been kidnapped and taken away in a white Exploder near there and they were pulling every one they saw on the roads. I can't blame him for what they were doing. I would want them doing it to if it was my kid

I have been pulled over for the "cigarette out the window", which is counts as littering and comes with a hefty fine in someplace. The funny thing is, i don't smoke, and there weren't and cigarettes or lighters in the car. so the cop wen't through a bunch of things trying to write me a ticket. Dirty license plate (I had just cleaned it), swerving 2 feet over the lines (there weren't lines on the country road I was on), 55 in a 45 (road is a 55)

Cop went through everything he could think of to write me a ticket. I had done nothing wrong and had enough sense to be polite and know my facts. I could tell he was getting upset with me. Finally he told me it was getting late and I should be heading home. I told him I would right after I made it to the bar. Ended up leaving my car outside the bar all night and got a ride home with a buddy. I really hope he spent all night waiting outside for my car.
