  • Do you think police abuse their authoritah

So I was dropping a friend off at his house with a bunch of friends in the car. We're driving along and pass a cop, not speeding or swerving so not worried about it. He pulled out as I passed, and proceeded to follow me for 12 miles, the entire time not more then 2 ft from my bumper. Around mile 10 another cop joins him. So I hit my signal to turn on my buddy's road, and bam read and blue lighting up the rear view. Pull over, the 2 cops still behind me. Third cop shows up. We're waiting for 15 mins before anyone moves, and when they do finally come up to the car, they literally surrounded it at least 6 officers, flashlights on, looking round inside the car and at everyone. at this point we still have absolutely no idea what I did. Officer asks for my paperwork, but before I gave it to him I asked why I was being pulled over. He said someone threw a cigarette 'or something' out the window, to which I protested, saying that my jeep has 4 ashtrays and no one throws butts out the window. He didn't say anything but just held out his hand so I ended up giving him my shit, and he took everyone else's. During this time cops are pretty much swarming the exterior looking around the inside. now we're waiting for another 30-40 mins. At this point I'm starting to get pretty pissed. Cop walks back up to my window and asked for me to step out of the car. I do, they pat me down at the trunk and then ask if me or anyone had any drugs or alcohol, or firearms, meanwhile every other cops got his hand on his gun. He tells me my car smelled weird and if i would consent to a search, I refused and said I'm exersizing my rights, if you wanna see any more then you already have you'll need a warrant. To which he replied I if had a warrant we wouldn't be here. I said I know, that's the point of a warrant. The guy made a face and told me to get my ass back in my car. So we're waiting for another 45 fucking minutes, and they finally come back, give all our paperwork back, and then sic'd my buddy with a 220 fuckin dollar fine for 'littering lit cigarette'. Clearly bullshit, I have 4 ashtrays and leftover reflexes from living in arid areas so I don't let anyone throw cogs out my car.

So we leave, drop my buddy off, and at the intersection where I got pulled over there's the cop waiting. I drive home, all 20 miles, and the fuckers on my ass, still no more then 2 feet away. Pretty much almost rear ended me when I pulled into my driveway.
What the fuck. If this is what my taxes are paying for I want my fuckin money back.
Anyone else have any horror stories involving our protectors?

I've never had an officer treat me badly or even unkindly for that matter and I've gotten into my fair share of shit.

Guess it just depends on the luck of the draw.

Your story is crazy, pretty unacceptable stuff.

i have never been arrested or caught doing anything nefarious at all and I have dealt with more than a handful of cops that were above and beyond complete and utter assholes for no reason whatsoever other than the fact they held authority...not just strict, but just plain mean.

With that said I dont believe all cops are bad, or even hold anything against cops in general...just had a lot of sour experiences over really mundane things.

Fairfield cops and that New Jersey state trooper....

Safe to say you've probably dealt with the worst there are out there, in terms of asshole rating

ironically none of them have been fairfield...you'd think it would be the epicenter of doucheville but none of them have ever been mean

            that jersey trooper
bridgeport, "officer dickbag", nick will know that one
            a handful of others

with that said i have run across a small number of very nice cops as well. actually the last 3 times i was pulled over in my car they were all extremely nice...although one of those gave me my only ticket ever, lol

Your friends and you had no reason to exit the vehicle. Plus there was no warranted reason you were patted down.

Granted, I guess I had that coming.

Wow, that's bad. Id be making some phone calls.
Personally I have had veryittle issue. I have been pulled over many times and never really had a ticket, except maybe seat belt, or when my reg was expired and I didn't realize it.
I also have quite a few friends that are cops, but not one of them is on patrol, all detectives or narcotics.
There is no doubt that there are some that absolutely abuse their power. These are the ones that became officers because they have something to prove, or have an inferiority complex and need to tell others what to do.
Sounds like that's what you got.

I feel like the small town cops are by far the worst. Ive been following for miles by a cop in brookfield with absolutely no lights on, he was just waiting for us to do something wrong so he could light us up. We reached the town line and he turned his headlights back on and turned around. In Ridgefield I had a cop pull me over because he said my stock fog lights were extremely bright, as bright as all his spot lights on me. He tried to search my car which I refused and then he tailgated me 5 miles out of town while two other cops joined him. But, on the other hand Ive met some really cool cops, one just talked to me about how I liked my bf goodriches and another sheriff gave me and my buddy his card to give him a call and to go wheeling with all his sheriff buddies. I think small town cops are just power hungry assholes, the townies in High school that everybody hated just for the fact that they were pricks.

I've never been harassed by a police officer for something I didn't deserve.

That said, everybody abuses their power at work, even when that abuse is mundane. I have access to a full workshop 30 ft. from my desk. If you don't think I'm gonna try any excuse to get out there, well... you dumb. In fact ima be in there today.

Police have the ability to profile and target based on their own personal also biases, just like everyone else. Only difference is that they make your day sad.

Wargin, lets face it, they probably read your Monsanto thread and figured you had more pot on you than a California surfer, when they realized you didn't, they just got pissed and threw a bullshit ticket your way to justify their existence.

                            Lol
But seriously I think it's bullshit that I got treated like a hardened criminal when I did nothing wrong and they had no probable cause
Well no they had probable cause jeep full of youth.
I didnt even give the whole story.
When the cops asked for the Paperwork of everyone in the car they did so at the passenger rear window where conveniently my only black friend was sitting and when he opened the window the cops freaked out on what was in his hand, which was his cell phone. Like what the fuckness
