  • Opinions on DD for girlfriend

My girlfriend is looking to buy a new used car. She currently has a Mazda 626 with a 5 speed and front wheel drive. She is hoping to upgrade to a vehicle that has awd or 4wd since she has a longer commute now and the weather here is so up and down. She wants something thats a bit newer, at least 2010 or so. So far she's looked at subaru's(both outbacks & foresters), Rav4's, CRV's(not a fan of the body type), ford escapes, and a few mazda wagons. Do you guys have any opinions on reliable commuter cars that fit that description?

i've always like the ford escape, not the new ones, but for the years shes looking at it.

does she have any interest in a jeep? not an XJ, but a WK maybe? or is that too big for what she's looking for?

Not too big, she just wants something that gets decent gas milage as well, like around mid 20's highway miles

I like the RAV4s and Escapes. I've got a friend with a Hyundai SUV that he swears by. In the years your looking you can probably find one that still has the remainder of the 100k mile warranty. I don't like the looks as much as others, but he says he's getting great gas mileage.

Like a Santa Fe? Every part of me screams Hyundai=cheap.... But i have no experience with them, just bias against them.

Lets go get your TJ and you can give her the XJ. Not only is it reliable, and gets great gas milage, but its the epitome of style...

Hyundai has gotten much better over the years.08 and newer hyundais are pretty much right on par with every other "big car" company.

This thread title could be misinterpreted rather easily.

Anyways, anything from Subaru would fit the qualifications well I think.

You know, something thats fun and nice to look at but still sporty/functional and can still enjoy the ride with. Something that won't break down over the years and be an eyesore. Maybe something that won't just hang around but have some sort of use down the road....

                      Didnt even think of that

Honda or subaru. Both reliable as all hell.

97 TJ that I think is pretty neat.

I bought a used 2011 Kia Optima in October. I absolutely love the thing. The interior is awesome, great features, and they continued the 100k warranty. So, I'll recommend an awd sportage or Hyundai Tucson
