What do I do if my computer will only start in Safe Mode? When I try to run normal startup it only comes up to the Windows XP screen and the status bar goes back and forth forever. I walked out of the room, made coffee and breakfast to come back and see it was still doing it. All I did was do a restart after installing the software for a handycam program

you have a few options, but IMHO your best bet (since its acting up) would be to grab an external HD, back up all your pewp on it in safe mode, then format the biatch and reinstall XP. how old is it/ what kinda machine?

i would restore to last known good config. you installed something it didn't like. no need to reformat your computer

I too do heart format. and it's also rare that I've seen last known good config works out.

Its an older HP NC6120 that's going on 3 years.I just reformatted a few months ago so it barely has anything on it other than Office, Itunes and the basic OS.

I would x4 the format. Last known good configuration hardly ever works for me.

Last known good configuration is for hardware errors only, it doesn't really work with software. It's not a full system backup. Plus, it is horrible.

Reformat the drive, stop installing limewire and looking at pr0n from china.

i would run a checkdisk in safe mode. have you tried system restore? i would also check the event viewer for any clues to what is going on.
