  • KTM dirt bikes

Been a yamaha guy all my life and kinda know the in and outs of common issues with there 250 motors/bikes but i have come across a pretty sweet deal on a 03 KTM 450 exc. The bike is adult owned and 100% dealer maintained. so its not beat up and has minimal hours on it at best.

so this is where i need the schooling. i am looking to do a supermoto build starting in the spring. I am familiar with the common upgrades (17" wheels, brake upgrade, suspension, gearing and tires of corse) but where i lack knowledge is when it comes to the motor and part specifics. i dont want to order parts that i think are a good deal to find out im dealing with the "rough country" parts of the motorcycle world.

any body out there in the offroad world that knows a bit about supermoto or KTM's in general? school me

    Bike looks like this
-98 XJ 4.5" lift , 35's, trimmed, locked, geared, flexy
-14 Subaru STI hatch Stage 2ish
    -54 Dodge Power wagon M-37
    -57 GMC Pickup

I had a 99 380sx. It had great low to mid end torque. I got one season (track and trails) before I had any problems. My kick start gear kept breaking, it was replaced at 3 different shops before I traded it for an 01yz426f. I loved the bike tho just couldn't get to the bottom of the problem. I bought it used in 2000 so it took some abuse before me.

you wont be disappointed in it, i rode one of the 250 2 strokes, what a great feeling bike. ktm builds some serious machines

i love my suzuki drz400, but i would trade it for a ktm in a heartbeat

only down side is the price, but ill tell ya, ive ridden alot of bikes, including a Kx250 stretched out dirt drag bike running on vp, and that ktm was more responsive and the best fun ive had on 2 wheels

thanks for the imput..... this thing is a go pending me test riding it. i checked the bike out but want to wait till the snow melts for a test ride.

doing some research there is no cheap way to go about turning this thing into supermoto but they seem to have quite a few write ups and conversion kits available.

                    stay tuned for a build

I am stuck in the same boat as you, my drz400 Is the enduro model and I would love to Supermotard it, Unfortunately to swap the front and rear end and rims cost more than just selling the bike and buying supermotard.

Right now I am just running 80% on road 20% off road tires
I have run Full street tires before, But then it sucks going in the woods.

I would like to turn my bike into supermotard Because I ride with sport bikes, and it's too tall for me

Check out supermoto junkie. There is a ton of good info and the classified section has saved me a bunch on some of the parts I got for my husky.

nice looking bikes. i realize that i could buy a supermoto for less then building one too but i know the bike has a spotless maintenance back round and is in awesome shape........ but i really want to build one instead of buy one
