  • Check Engine light question

This might be a stupid question, but multiple people told me to have autozone or someone with a scanner just clear the code to shut it off. If I do this without fixing the problem (large EVAP leak) will the light just come right back on?
    Thanks.

Have you figured out where the leak is? How about you fix it then clear the code?

I don't know where the leak is, not interested in it enough to fix it unless I have to. Hence this post. so how about that answer.? ;\

My check engine light came on a few months ago an i had it restarted and checked out and the problem came right back. You actually gotta fix it i believe in order for it to stop coming on because mine kept coming on after i cleared it until i got the problem fixed.

Large evap leak is usually a loose gas cap. Clear the code and see if the light comes back on.

go to advance auto, turn the jeep off, tighten the gas, go inside barrow the obdII reader, clear the code, Turn jeep on.

then you have a large leak. check the hoses. they are prone to cracking

Usually is the gas cap and if its not, then its probably just a bad hose somewhere in the evap system. Mine was a cracked evap hose coming from the vent on the gas tank to the charcoal canister. Check all the evap hoses and if you dont find anything the smoke machine will.
