I'm moving to south florida in november. During the move for about 2 months i will be in a temporary house to stay in until we make a final move around january. The problem is my dog. He is not allowed inside the living room/ bedrooms of the house, only the florida room. Which is a 25X30 room/patio deal. all enclosed but only screen windows. The temps at night during the winter average 45-60 degrees. The room is bigger than my whole downstairs where he stays now so size isn't the issue. We'll also mainly be hanging out in that room so isolation isn't an issue either. I'm just a little worried about some cold nights. Whats the general consensus, i dont really have another option with him and he's definetly coming with us. He's part of the family and my sons best friend. Is it inhumane for him to be out there on a cold night for a couple weeks?

my animals become my children - and i would feel bad even not letting them sleep in my bed at night. i'm not sure how well dogs get by in those temps, but i wonder if basically making him a big bed with tons of blankets and stuff might help?mrs. heavymetal from jeepforum

A good bed should be all he needs in those temps. Growing up I had hunting dogs that lived outside. They had houses, with hay. That should be all they need.
I think sometimes we forget where these animals come from. I love my animals, and definitely treat them like a part of my family (maybe better) but they are still animals.Dan.

I used to keep a couple dogs outside year round when I lived in North Carolina. They had a small doghouse and run of the entire yard 24/7. Put a nice bed or pillow out there and he'll be fine. I did have a heat light I would put in the doghouse if we were expecting snow or if the temps would get below 30 degrees.

My girlfriends mother breeds golden retrievers. They slew outside until it hits the 20s. They aren't always out ther but there are times when they sleep out in their side of the garage in cold nights. They're all fine. The only thing I would think might affect him is the environment changeHench
ATM anyone?
