    Situation:

    2 year long civil war
    100k+ dead
    2 million refugees
    6 million displaced
    Side 1: Bashar Al-Assad
    - "President," supported by Russia, China, Iran & Iraq, Hezbollah
    Side 2: Various rebel factions
    - Some moderate, some radicalized Al-Qaeda fundamentalists

    Relevance:
Last month, one side or another used sarin gas on a group of civilians, killing 1,400, of which, 400 were children. Images of aftermath sparked international outcry. Calls for UN intervention occurred, Russia blocks any vote on the Security Council that would authorize action. Eyes turn towards the West for help.

Referencing Obama's position last year that the use of chemical weapons would cross a "red line," people expect the US to lead the charge. As Obama attempted to gain international support, our key military ally, the UK, voted down any military action in Parliament for the first time in 100 years, leaving the US to essentially go it alone.

Obama claims he is ready to launch a "surgical, proportional" strike, using Tomahawk cruise missiles, to punish Assad for his use of chemical weapons, but does not plan to shift the balance in the civil war. But before doing so, he decided to let Congress vote on whether or not to get involved. That vote will take place next week.

What do you think about it?

We're not the world police. We've gotten nowhere in the Middle East, and no matter what we do they're going to keep on killing each other. Their religion encourages holy war and suicide, you'll never win anything against that kind of fanaticism. Let them kill each other like savages.

America needs to go back to an isolationist foreign policy.

the idea isnt to "win." it is to set an example that chemical/biological weapons are a no go to foreign governments

this is just a reverse of 2003, bush fans say go for iraq. everyone who hates him says it's a bad idea

        fast forward a few years.....

Obama fans love him and support anything he says and want to "help" Syria
people who don't like him say it's a bad idea.

i want bush to go all over the news and tv saying he supports Obama and going into Syria just like he did in Iraq in 2003..... peoples heads will explode

if i look at this for my own personal interests i am all for military in Syria because i'll hopefully be able to get on a 4th vacation to a 3rd country.

in reality and what is best for the country, stay the hell out and let them kill or gas who ever as we have too many internal problems to deal with right now. unfuck this country, save money and concentrate military stuff on Afghan.

No worries, I'm not actually back, I'm just reminiscing about the old days.

Whatever the "idea" is, that doesn't answer my first point.
