Old vs. New

Read an article and a comment stream that was debating the merits of owning a Porsche 911 (993) vs. a new Cayman. Some said the "feel" of owning a classic was worth more than the technological advancements and soundness of the new model.

If you were given a sum of money, whatever it may be (20k, 30k, 100k, whatever), and you had to buy a car (for the full amount, no nonsense about upgrading or modifying it), would you choose new, classic, or a relatively young pre-owned?

Definitely classic. I would much rather have something that has some history, that not everyone can run to the dealership and buy.

Any amount of money, I don't know why anyone would buy relatively new, pre-owned.
I would buy brand new for reliability purposes only. It will be a "classic" eventually...

It depends on the car. Exotics, Porsches, BMWs, etc. I'd easily buy new. American muscle type cars it would me tough to decide. I love the classics, but these new camaros, mustangs, and challengers are pretty amazing too.

completely depends on the vehicle.

muscle car (stang, camaro, challenger) classic without a shred of a doubt

regular sports car ie: bmw, porsche, jaguar etc. i'd go for new for the sake of a warranty, power, creature comforts.

exotic cars however can do either way depending on the brand/model such as ferrari or aston martin. some supercars though new is the only way to go
