Since 2007, the NSA has been operating a top secret program called PRISM that monitored traffic on MSN, Yahoo, Google, Facebook, PalTalk, Skype, YouTube, and Apple, with Dropbox coming soon.

In addition to that, the NSA also collected the phone records of essentially everyone who is a Verizon customer.

All these programs are authorized under the Patriot Act. Is the alleged increase in safety and security worth the breach of privacy?

    What say you.

Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Ben Franklin was right on the money.

exactly what came to my mind

Since the NSA is supposed to focus on foreign intelligence, it has created a software system that generates the probability of a subjects "foreignness." If this probability is greater than 51%, they qualify for monitoring.

Of course this is a flawed system and many regular Americans get caught up in it, but analysts were instructed "to just report it, not a big deal."

Once someone is monitored, the NSA can then monitor people two levels away from their contacts. So not only are their contacts monitored but their contacts' contacts as well.

The fact that the justice system has created a procedure in which it can directly order compliance by US companies is a travesty.

Anyone who thought the government WASN'T monitoring these things all along was being naive. Haven't you seen Enemy of the state? I'd really like to hear the government's thoughts on my change in porn preferences over the years though. NSA

the population will be powerless throughout this without an overwhelming show of violence IMO, which wont happen

i wont be the guy to start it, neither will millions of others, everyone has too much to lose with no guarantee of anything to gain except death or prison. massive widespread decline will bring on necessary change.

Yup, we can all vote however we want, I suspect that with all the Illegal Aliens in CT getting licenses that the number of fraudulent votes will also increase.

"accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed"

Everyday lately it seems like there's just a little more, a little more, the real question is, how much will the American people take?
